City of Irwindale Announces New Chief of Police

The City of Irwindale and the Irwindale Police Department are pleased to announce the selection of Ty Henshaw as the City’s next Chief of Police.

Prior to his selection as police chief, Chief Henshaw served as Captain with the Irwindale Police Department.

Chief Henshaw brings nearly 25 years of law enforcement experience to his new duties. He began his law enforcement career in January of 1993 with the City of Bell Police Department. As an officer with the Bell Police Department, Chief Henshaw worked his way up from a police officer to Interim Chief of Police. In 2014, Chief Henshaw joined the City of Irwindale Police Department as Captain, a position he has held since that time. During his career, Chief Henshaw has served in nearly every capacity available within the police department.

Chief Henshaw holds a Master of Science degree in Emergency Services Administration from Cal State Long Beach, as well as a Master of Public Administration from Cal State Northridge. He currently serves as state board member for the California Peace Officers’ Association (CPOA) and previously served as the Region Chair for the organization’s Los Angeles County chapter.

In addition to law enforcement career, Chief Henshaw is an Adjunct Professor at Cerritos College in Norwalk, California, in the Administration of Justice Department.

Chief Henshaw replaces Chief Anthony Miranda, who accepted an opportunity to serve as the Chief of Police with the City of Vernon Police Department.

“I would like to thank the Irwindale City Council, City Manager, staff and community for placing their trust in me”, said Chief Henshaw. “I am both honored and excited at this opportunity and will continue to put our community first, ensuring we are providing the best possible service as chief. I am committed to listening to the needs of those we serve and this organization.”

Chief Henshaw’s appointment will be effective Tuesday, June 20, 2017.
