Although mining is still an important piece of our local economy, there are several inactive mining pits that have been or are in the process of being reclaimed for development.
Most recently, reclamation efforts have resulted in the development of the nationally recognized
Irwindale Speedway and the Irwindale Business Center, a 100 acre, specially designed industrial development.
The Irwindale Speedway features a wide, high-banked oval "Mini-Super Speedway" located on a 63 acre site directly adjacent to the 605 Freeway. Racing fans across the United States recognize the track as being the most high-tech raceway in the nation!
Opened in March of 1999, the 6,500 seat facility boasts all the accommodations of the newest giant super tracks in scaled-down proportions. Luxury suites, stadium lighting, close-in parking for over 2,500 cars, fully paved and brightly lit pits, a well-equipped NASCAR tech building, clean rest rooms, serviceable showers, a 1/8 mile dragstrip, top flight on-site food service by Pasadena's renown Twin Palms Catering, and much more.
Car shows, tent sales, new vehicle introductions, media ride and drives, car club slalom events, musical concerts, filming of TV shows and commercials as well as feature productions are just a small sampling of on-going events offered at the Irwindale Speedway throughout the year.
The City of Irwindale has a close partnership with the Irwindale Speedway, and can arrange a "welcome night" for new businesses relocating to the City and their employees. Just give our Economic Development Manager a call and leave the rest to us!
