Programs

Tiny Tots
This storytime and craft session is held every other Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. from September to May for members of the City of Irwindale Recreation Department Tiny Tots Program and any other preschool children who may enjoy it. Please call the library at (626) 430-2229 for the current schedule.

After School Storytime
The After School Storytime is held every Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. starting in September and continuing until the end of May.

Summer Reading Program
The Summer Reading Program is offered to assist children in maintaining their readings skills during the summer. The Irwindale City Council, the Irwindale Public Library, the Irwindale Chamber of Commerce and various businesses in and around the City partner to provide both financial support for the program and reading incentives for the children to encourage them to achieve. Children who are members of the Irwindale Public Library may participate. Storytimes, craft times and performances are scheduled during the program. Pick-A-Book Reading Program
This program is for children ages four through eighteen and usually runs from January into March. Each child reads five books and chooses one of the books to illustrate. The picture the child draws is displayed in the library for about six months. Once the drawing is presented to staff, the child chooses a brand new book to keep from the bin.

Homebound Program
This program is offered to the homebound residents of Irwindale. Through a partnership between the Irwindale Public Library and the Irwindale Senior Center library items are delivered to residents over 50. Homebound children and adults under 50 receive their deliveries from Library staff. Books and DVDs are delivered every three weeks to members of the program. Items can be renewed by phone.  InterLibrary Loan Program
The Interlibrary Loan program enables the Irwindale Public Library to borrow books for patrons from other libraries through the Southern California Library Cooperative. At the moment, there is no charge for this program although that is subject to change.

The City of Irwindale provides an after school tutoring opportunity for resident children in the Library's Learning Center.

There are three programs for the children:

  • Targeted Tutoring program
  • Homework Help program
  • At Risk of Retention and Resource Specialist Program (RSP).

Applications for the first two programs are available in the Learning Center or at the Library Circulation desk.

Required identification: Your own and your child’s City ID card with the application.

There is a small fee for the first two programs.

For the At Risk of Retention and Resource Specialist Program (RSP):

  • Required documents: the child’s most current report card and a letter from the teacher, on school
  • letterhead, or the most current Individualized Learning Program with the application.
  • Required identification: your child’s and your own City ID card.

Present all of the above to the City Librarian for authorization to use the program. This is a free reimbursement program for those who qualify.

Learning Center Tutoring Programs

 

The Irwindale Public Library has an after school Learning Center for the resident children of Irwindale. The Learning Center is staffed by teachers from local schools under contract to the City of Irwindale and volunteers who enjoy working with children.

 

 

Tutoring Learning Center Application

Tutoring Learning Center Application - Spanish

K-12 Targeted Tutoring

This program is for children requiring specific tutoring by a credentialed teacher in a specific subject like Math or Reading. As before, the schedule will be Monday and Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. for K through 5th grade and Tuesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. for 6th through 12th grade.

Homework Help

 This program is for assistance with any assigned homework from a qualified volunteer and will be open on Monday and Wednesday from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m and Tuesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Any child or teenager may come in at any time during those hours for help.

At Risk of Retention Program

 Registration for the At Risk of Retention and Resource Specialist Program (RSP) Program requires a review by the City Librarian of the child’s latest report card and a letter from the teacher on school letterhead stating that the child is in danger of failing the grade or a copy of the child’s current Resource Specialist Program. Once the child is accepted in the program you may register at the Jones Reading and Math Clinic in Covina.
