Bicycle Patrol Division

The bike unit has the advantage of mobile, quiet operation in confined areas such as the city park, residential areas, the Santa Fe Recreational area and the Irwindale Speedway. Highly maneuverable, and easy to get into places unreachable by normal patrol vehicles, the Bike Unit is a great asset to the Irwindale Police Department.

Canine Patrol Division

After nearly nine years of service - which is over fifty dog years - our Police Service Dog "Alfa" has retired. Our new Police Service Dog "Ricky" started with our department in 2006, and he is also Belgian Malinois, imported from Holland like "Alfa". "Ricky" is able to search a building that would take a two-man officer team over an hour to clear in a matter of minutes. And when his drug training is completed, he will be able to locate hidden drugs in a vehicle in a matter of seconds. Criminals should think before trying to run away from "Ricky"... with a running speed of over 30 M.P.H., you can't outrun this K-9 for long!

Police Explorer Division

The explorer post is a great way for young men and women to get involved in the community, and learn first-hand about police work. Joining is easy--just call (626) 430-2244 and ask for the "Explorer Post Advisor". Soon you may find yourself working with a police officer! Anyone age 14 to 20 can join.
